Delhi6 Indian Restaurant Panajachel

I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things about eating out is indulging in ethnic food. That just got easier to do in Panajachel, thanks to Chef Pravesh. He recently opened Delhi6, an Indian food restaurant.

Located on a terrace above Abracadabra on Calle Santander, Delhi6 Restaurant has an open-air balcony, solid wooden tables under umbrellas, and walls painted with colorful murals. The tantalizing aromas of cumin, cardamom, turmeric, and garlic scent the air, waking the senses and the belly.

Great Indian Food

I tried out the restaurant with my parents and some friends. Between us we ordered butter chicken, Kadai paneer, chicken curry, pilau, garlic naan, sides of basmati rice, and Delhi6 ginger ale to slake our thirst. After savoring all of the dishes, we agreed the food was among the best Indian cuisine we’ve tasted. (And several of us have had some really delicious Indian food in British Columbia Canada).

Chef Pravesh spent some time chatting with us and we got the chance to ask him some questions. He hails from New Delhi India where he used to love eating the amazing street food on Galī 6 (Street Six), thus the inspiration for the name of his restaurant. He moved to Guatemala in 2019 and opened his restaurant in April 2022.

What about allergies?

It isn’t easy eating out on the autoimmune protocol diet, even after reintroducing rice and certain vegetables. But Chef Pravesh was awesome about it. He came over and talked with me to find out what I could and couldn’t eat. I gave him my very very long list of food restrictions, and he rose to the challenge. He made me a special rice pilau spiced with ginger and garlic and filled with delicious bits of chicken and vegetables. It’s the best meal I’ve had at a restaurant in a long time.

If you have food restrictions or are gluten-free, I’m sure he’d be glad to make something special order.
