La Asunción is the largest laboratory in the Department of Sololá and has been in operation for over 25 years. I’ve used their services in Sololá and found them professional and helpful. This is the laboratory I recommend, especially if you need a specialized test.
La Asunción has a location by the market in Panajachel on the side street where the minbuses gather to leave for Godínez.

Laboratorio La Asunción can complete many routine tests, as well as over 100 different kinds of specialized tests, paternity tests, and physicochemical and microbial water tests. They have the latest equipment and have highly trained technicians.
COVID TESTS
La Asunción is the only laboratory I know in the Panajachel/Sololá area that offers COVID-19 tests suitable for travelers.
- Antigen SARS COV-2—– Q 350
- PCR SARS COV-2 ——– Q 850
NOTE: You will need to tell them the COVID test is for travel, and show them your passport so the information on the test will match.
The PCR test results come back within four hours. The Antigen test results come back within one hour.
Results can come in by email or WhatsApp, and you have to choose ahead of time whether you want results in English or Spanish.

This laboratory is housed in the Centro Medico El Hospitalito, at the top of the hill near the Puente Ubico. This lab offers a range of lab tests. If you need an ultrasound, you can get one here as well.
